Chelsea M. Jones, Outreach and Student Support Associate

As Outreach and Student Support Associate at Center for Student Opportunity, Chelsea Jones assists with connecting colleges with community based organizations across the country in an effort to recruit low-income, first generation minority students, as well as spotlighting Center for Student Opportunity partner schools with programs dedicated to student recruitment and retention.

Before joining Center for Student Opportunity, Chelsea Jones interned for First Focus, a bipartisan advocacy organization in Washington, DC dedicated to making children and families a priority in federal policy and budget decisions in the areas of child welfare, education, juvenile justice, poverty, and health care.

Jones hails from Trenton, New Jersey and is a student at Howard University majoring in Political Science with a minor in English. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to obtain a degree in Education Administration and Public Policy. Jones is an alumna of Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP), an academic and cultural enrichment program that admits low-income, high-achieving students to the program after their freshman year of high school from 3 school districts in New Jersey. Jones has become quite passion for the field of education. She has worked with Heads Up DC, a non-profit organization that provides rigorous after-school and summer programs for elementary school children in the D.C. area’s most underserved neighborhoods. She has also tutored at other schools in the DC area, as well as back in her hometown. Jones would like to one day start her own organization geared toward helping low-income and minority students graduate from high school, as well as help them prepare for and successfully get into college.
