about the project
Center for Student Opportunity’s College Access
and Opportunity Guide promises to be the first of its kind—a comprehensive college guidebook dedicated to promoting college opportunity for the traditionally underserved. Schools nominated for inclusion in the Guide offer shining examples of institutions committed to college access and retention and are profiled in light of the programs and opportunities they present for first-generation, low-income, and minority students.
Colleges are nominated for inclusion in the College Access and Opportunity Guide based on input from a national independent advisory committee comprised of college presidents and chief administrators, college access and community-based organization leaders, and higher education association officials. The Guide will profile approximately 400 institutions that provide leading examples of access, diversity, and success.
The College Access and Opportunity Guide is scheduled for publication in early 2008, and will be published by by Latham Press of Bethesda, Maryland. The Guide will be distributed to 40,000 U.S. libraries, over 20,000 high school guidance offices, and several thousand community-based organizations and college access programs, and will sell individually to consumers online through Amazon.com, Latham Press, Center for Student Opportunity’s own website, and national bookseller outlets.
