Opportunity Program
The Opportunity Program provides students whose high school records and/or SAT/ACT scores do not reflect their actual potential and seeks to prepare them for success from the moment they enter college. Participants reside on campus and are introduced to both the academic and social aspects of college life as well as basic skill development in reading, writing, critical thinking, career and educational planning, and effective decision making. Students will also learn how to connect to the larger campus community.

Selected entering freshmen take part in SPREE, a five-week academic orientation. The program helps students make the transition to college level instruction, orient themselves with the campus and its services, and interact with other Clarkson University students. No fees are required, on-campus housing and meals are included.

Freshman Achievement Program
Sponsored in part by the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs, the Freshman Achievement Program matches freshman participants with an upper-class mentor for a one-on-one relationship to establish a system of peer guidance in academic and social arenas. Mentors also have access to limited funds for a “bonding” meal with their peer-mentee.

The program is 10 weeks in duration and focuses on three major areas - academic, professional, and personal growth. As participants of the program, students will have formal training and an opportunity to take part in at least one volunteer project. These activities will be designed to enhance students’ team building and leadership skills. In addition, for those who successfully complete the program, a scholarship will be awarded.

The Multicultural Student Achievement Award is a renewable award of $2,500 available to students who have a minimum entrance GPA of 3.4. Retention of this award requires a cumulative George Fox GPA of 2.75. The Multicultural Student Award of $1,000 is available to students with an entrance GPA of 3.0. Retention of this award requires a cumulative George Fox GPA of 2.5.

Students and faculty from Middlebury remain engaged at DeWitt Clinton throughout the years as teachers, mentors, and supporters. Middlebury also sponsors campus visits and sessions on admissions and financial aid.
