ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP:
The Center for Student Opportunity (CSO) Opportunity Scholarship is a $2,000, four-year renewable scholarship awarded to first-generation, low-income, and/or minority high school seniors enrolling at a four-year college or university.
Scholarship winners are also given the opportunity to serve as student bloggers on Center for Student Opportunity’s web blog to share their college journeys and offer advice to younger students like them on how to make it to college.
APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
ELIGIBILITY:
Opportunity Scholarship applicants are generally characterized by the following:
• Graduating high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States
• Attending an eligible four-year college or university partnered with CSO in the fall of 2011. CSO College Partners can be viewed here.
• First-generation college - neither parent earned a four-year college degree, and/or
• Limited financial resources - students who seek financial aid and scholarships for college, and/or
• Underrepresented/minority groups - students who identify as African-American/Black, American Indian/Alaska native, Hispanic/Latino, and Asian/Pacific Islander
Opportunity Scholars are not defined by minimum academic qualifications.
TIMELINE
1. May 27, 2011: All completed application materials must be received on or before May 27,2011. Incomplete applications will be disqualified from the scholarship selection process.
2. Early July 2011: Semi-finalists will be selected and notified by email. Semi-finalists will be asked to submit a sample blog post. Scholarship committee will select finalists to advance to the interview round of the scholarship selection process.
3. Late July 2011: Finalists will be selected and invited for phone interviews.
4. August 2011: Winners of the Opportunity Scholarship will be notified.
